| JOB DESCRIPTION: |
|
This employee performs the function of an Instructional Aide. The instructional aide works with the classroom team comprised of a Salish Language Specialist, a Teacher, and an Instructional Aide. The Instructional Aide assists the Salish Language Specialist and Teacher with instructional activities and classroom management. This includes assisting in the preparation of lessons for and with a Fluent speaker. We are a Salish speaking school so it is expected that the incumbent be fluent or have a desire to learn the language. This is a very demanding job that requires patience and dedication. |
| DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: |
|
- Assist Salish Language instructors with learning activities.
- Supervise young children during lunch and recess periods.
- Provide basic classroom management during the school day
.
- Assist in the creation of curriculum materials and development as needed.
- Improve Salish language literacy in oral and written form.
- Refrain from using English.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: |
|
- Experience working with 3-5 year olds.
- Background knowledge in an elementary education.
- Experience in an elementary or preschool educational setting.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Familiarity with immersion instruction.
- Must have good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
- Have ability to organize and maintain records relating to curriculum development.

| JOB DESCRIPTION: |
This employee is a fluent speaker of Salish. Incumbent must be open minded and have the patience to work with young children. Speaking only Salish to the children is a major responsibility. Speaking only Salish takes time to get accustomed to. Full time or part time work is an option. |
| DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: |
- Speak primarily to students and staff in the Salish language to maintain an immersion environment
- Engage students in a positive manner during the course of the school day in the Salish language
- Consult with classroom teacher in designing and implementing an age appropriate course of study to ensure students attain fluency and achieve benchmarks and meet curriculum standards
- Strive to improve teaching abilities
- Improve Salish Language skills in oral and written form
- Assist other staff in improving their Salish language skills
- Assist in translation of curriculum materials.

| MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: |
- Fluent Salish speaker
- Experience and patience working with young children
- Patience to work long hours without speaking English
- Familiarity with immersion instruction methodology
- Must have good interpersonal skills
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
- Have ability to organize and maintain records relating to language instruction
